2 candidates gone after challenges in Lake County Board races

A challenge to the nominating petitions of a Lake County Board candidate was upheld and another overruled Friday, and a candidate in a third county board race withdrew.

The Lake County Election Commission completed two hearings Friday.

An objection to the nominating petition of Sharon Allen, Democratic candidate for District 3, was sustained due to an insufficient number of valid signatures. Her name will not appear on the ballot for the March 20 primary, according to Lake County ...

The contest for the Lake County Board's 14th District seat looks to be the most crowded county-level race on the March primary ballot, with four candidates after the Democratic Party nomination.

Incumbent Vance D. Wyatt of North Chicago is being challenged by former county board member Angelo Kyle of Waukegan, North Chicago Alderman Bonny Mayfield and newcomer Richard Otero-Cintron, whose hometown wasn't immediately available.

Incumbents make up more than half of Lake County candidates to file Monday for 2018 elections

More than half of the 42 candidates who filed Monday seeking a spot on the Lake County Board, a countywide office or a local statehouse seat are incumbents, state and Lake County records show.

 

Monday marked the first day candidates could file the paperwork and signatures necessary to appear on their party's March primary ballot. They have until Dec. 4 to do so.

Four of the 14 Lake County Board members and one of the four countywide incumbents up for election in 2018 remained without challengers Monday, which was the last day established-party candidates could file the paperwork and signatures necessary to appear on their party's March primary ballot.

Fitting topic for reopening of flooded CLC auditorium: climate change

Organizers say the first event to be held in the A Wing Auditorium at the College of Lake County since it was closed four months ago due to flooding is fitting, considering the circumstances.

 

The space will be reopened Tuesday night for national expert and former presidential adviser Donald Wuebbles and others who will give perspectives on how extreme events are related to climate change.
