Winter's days are shorter, the air is cooler, and snow is all-around. It's also an important fundraising time for local soccer teams. Heart of the City will host their first fundraiser at Robert Abbott Middle School in Waukegan on January 20th.
Adrienne Wright, Director of Development for the nonprofit and organizer of the event, said she hopes the community will support its mission to keep kids kicking by helping sustain its life-changing soccer programs.Read Full Post »

A challenge to the nominating petitions of a Lake County Board candidate was upheld and another overruled Friday, and a candidate in a third county board race withdrew.
The Lake County Election Commission completed two hearings Friday.
An objection to the nominating petition of Sharon Allen, Democratic candidate for District 3, was sustained due to an insufficient number of valid signatures. Her name will not appear on the ballot for the March 20 primary, according to Lake County ...Read Full Post »

The contest for the Lake County Board's 14th District seat looks to be the most crowded county-level race on the March primary ballot, with four candidates after the Democratic Party nomination.
Incumbent Vance D. Wyatt of North Chicago is being challenged by former county board member Angelo Kyle of Waukegan, North Chicago Alderman Bonny Mayfield and newcomer Richard Otero-Cintron, whose hometown wasn't immediately available.
